I Said No.

Updated: Jun 1, 2018

No.

What if your sex robot could tell you no?

As technology is integrated into sex and relationships, it only makes sense that a follow-on effect would be the technological advancement of sex robots. No longer are they a static object, but they now have the capabilities of becoming your companion through advanced artificial intelligence. Some have internal heating, self-lubrication, the ability to orgasm, and are designed to not ‘ever break your heart or your expectations.’

But at the end of the day, it’s just a robot, right?

Not for much longer.

Artificial consciousness is the futuristic sister of artificial intelligence. AC is a scientific and philosophical theory that relates to the idea that machines can develop a mind and gain an awareness of itself.

Consciousness means life. And if we really want to get technical, a robot would need to do a few simple things to qualify as being conscious:

  • act independently

  • gather information for itself

  • show generosity

  • interact with others

  • project into the world

To back track for a moment, here are some of the things sex robots are being designed to do:

  • act independently

  • gather information for itself

  • show generosity

  • interact with others

  • project into the world

These sex robots that are one day going to enter the world will no longer be ‘just’ robots – but instead, they will be leaving their factories (or birthplace) as a sophisticated, fully recognised female entity. As we advance as a society, robots begin to reflect our culture.

Consciousness means life – if these sex robots have a quality of life that is similar to a human, how are we going to protect it?

And more importantly, do we care enough to do so?
